About the Romania Government Scholarship

The Romania Government Scholarship was established to strengthen academic cooperation between Romania and countries outside the European Union by providing talented international students with access to quality higher education. Every year, hundreds of scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants who demonstrate strong academic performance and wish to pursue degree programmes at Romanian universities.

The scholarship is available across a broad range of disciplines, including engineering, agriculture, architecture, education, social sciences, journalism, political science, veterinary medicine, visual arts, Romanian culture and civilization, oil and gas, technical studies, and many other fields.

However, scholarships are not awarded for programmes in Medicine, Dental Medicine, or Pharmacy.

For undergraduate and master's programmes, recipients are required to study in the Romanian language. Applicants who do not already speak Romanian are provided with a fully funded preparatory year to learn the language before beginning their degree. Doctoral candidates may choose to study either in Romanian or in another language offered by their doctoral school.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Romania Government Scholarship, applicants must:

• Be a citizen of a non-EU country.

• Not be a Romanian citizen or belong to categories already eligible for other Romanian government scholarship programmes.

• Hold academic qualifications issued by accredited educational institutions.

• Have a minimum average academic score of 7.00 (or the equivalent of a "Good" grade) in their most recently completed programme of study.

• Meet all admission and application requirements before the deadline.

• Be no older than 35 years for undergraduate and master's studies.

• Be no older than 45 years for doctoral or postgraduate studies.

Applicants who already receive another Romanian Government scholarship for the same level of study are not eligible to apply.

Language of Instruction

One of the unique features of the Romania Government Scholarship is its emphasis on promoting the Romanian language and culture.

All undergraduate and master's scholarship recipients study in Romanian. Applicants who do not have sufficient knowledge of the language will first complete a fully funded Romanian language preparatory year before starting their degree programme.

Doctoral applicants may choose to study in Romanian or in another language approved by their doctoral school.

The Romanian language preparatory year is not required for applicants who:

• Have previously completed at least four consecutive years of study in Romania.

• Hold Romanian academic qualifications.

• Successfully pass the Romanian language proficiency examination.

• Present a Romanian language certificate at a minimum B1 level issued in accordance with Romanian regulations.
