These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of upportucity.com and all related pages, features, community areas and services (together, the "Platform"), operated by UpportuCity, a Rogg Tech project ("UpportuCity", "we", "us", "our").
By accessing the Platform, creating an account, joining The City, subscribing to our newsletter, or using any feature, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.
These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which forms part of this agreement.
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. By registering, you confirm that:
We may suspend or terminate any account where we reasonably believe these conditions are not met.
UpportuCity is an information aggregator and community platform. We collect, organise and republish information about scholarships, jobs, grants, fellowships, internships and other opportunities offered by third parties, and we provide a space for members to share leads and experiences.
We are not:
Every application, selection decision, contract, offer, scholarship award and payment is a matter strictly between you and the third-party organisation concerned. We are not a party to it and have no control over it.
We describe opportunities as "verified" to mean that a member of our team has carried out a reasonable manual check that the listing appears to originate from a genuine organisation and is not an obvious scam, at the time the listing was published.
Verification does not mean:
Details change constantly. Always confirm every detail on the official website of the organisation offering the opportunity before applying or relying on anything.
Opportunity fraud is widespread, and scammers frequently impersonate legitimate universities, employers and foundations.
Legitimate scholarships, grants and jobs do not ask you to pay to apply, to pay a "processing", "clearance" or "visa facilitation" fee, or to send money to an individual's personal account.
You agree that you will:
You use all listings, links and community leads entirely at your own risk. UpportuCity accepts no liability for any loss you suffer as a result of dealing with a third party found through the Platform.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately at hello@upportucity.com of any unauthorised use.
You may not:
We may suspend, restrict or delete accounts that breach these Terms, with or without prior notice where the breach is serious.
The City is a shared space. When posting content, comments, opportunity submissions or messages, you agree not to post anything that:
We reserve the right, but assume no obligation — to review, edit, remove or refuse any content at our sole discretion. We may report unlawful content and the account behind it to the relevant authorities.
You retain ownership of the content you post. By posting on the Platform, you grant UpportuCity a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, publish, translate and display that content for the purposes of operating, promoting and improving the Platform. This licence continues for content that other members have interacted with or that remains necessary for the integrity of a discussion thread, even after you delete your account.
You confirm that you own or have the necessary rights to everything you post, and that your content does not infringe the rights of any third party.
Testimonials and success stories: where you submit a success story, you consent to us publishing your name, photograph, institution and quote on the Platform and in our marketing materials, unless you tell us otherwise in writing.
The UpportuCity name, logo, branding, site design, original written content, curation, database structure and compilation of opportunities are owned by UpportuCity or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property law.
You may view, share links to, and print listings for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not:
Third-party names, logos and trademarks appearing on the Platform belong to their respective owners and are used for identification purposes only.
You agree not to:
The Platform displays third-party advertising, including advertising served through Google AdSense. Advertisements, sponsored placements and partner listings are not endorsements. We are not responsible for the content, products, services or practices of advertisers, and any dealings you have with an advertiser are solely between you and that advertiser.
Where a listing is sponsored or forms part of a paid partnership, we will label it as such.
By subscribing, you consent to receive periodic emails about new opportunities, deadlines and Platform updates. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter. Registered users will still receive essential service emails relating to their account, security and changes to these Terms.
The Platform links extensively to external websites. We do not control those sites, do not endorse them, and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, security or privacy practices. Accessing a linked site is entirely at your own risk and subject to that site's own terms.
We provide the Platform on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. We may modify, suspend, restrict or discontinue any feature, listing, community area or the Platform as a whole at any time, with or without notice.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, UpportuCity disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
Without limiting the above, we make no warranty that:
Statistics displayed on the Platform (including visitor counts, opportunity counts, application figures and funding totals) are indicative estimates and are not warranted as precise.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, UpportuCity, Rogg Tech, and their directors, employees, contributors and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary loss, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, opportunity, funding, admission, employment, goodwill or reputation, arising out of or connected with your use of the Platform — whether based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability or otherwise, and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such loss.
In particular, we are not liable for any loss arising from:
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) NGN 20,000.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud, or for any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless UpportuCity, Rogg Tech and their officers, employees and agents against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities and reasonable legal costs arising from your use of the Platform, your content, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
You may close your account at any time by contacting hello@upportucity.com.
We may suspend or terminate your access immediately, without notice, if you breach these Terms, if we suspect fraudulent or abusive activity, or if required by law.
On termination, your right to use the Platform ends immediately. Sections 8 (Content You Submit), 9 (Our Intellectual Property), 15 (Disclaimer), 16 (Limitation of Liability), 17 (Indemnity), 19 (Governing Law) and any other provision intended to survive will remain in force.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
Before commencing formal proceedings, you agree to first contact us at hello@upportucity.com and attempt to resolve the dispute informally in good faith for a period of 30 days.
If the dispute is not resolved, it shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of [INSERT STATE, e.g. Lagos State], Nigeria. Where mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings locally, that right is unaffected.
We may revise these Terms at any time. The "Last Updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent version. For material changes, we will notify registered users by email or by a prominent notice on the Platform. Continued use after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance. If you do not accept the revised Terms, you must stop using the Platform and may close your account.
