ABOUT THE GLOBAL YOUNG ACADEMY
The Global Young Academy is an independent international academy of young researchers dedicated to empowering the next generation of scientific leaders.
Established in 2010, the Academy consists of 200 active members representing six continents and more than 100 countries. Members come from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, including universities, research institutes, government agencies, industry, and non-governmental organisations.
Beyond recognising research excellence, the Academy encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and supports initiatives that improve science education, influence public policy, strengthen international cooperation, and address global challenges through research and innovation.
WHAT DOES GYA MEMBERSHIP INVOLVE?
Successful applicants become part of an active international community of researchers working together on projects that extend beyond their individual areas of expertise.
During the five-year membership, members are expected to:
- Participate in GYA programmes, committees, and working groups.
- Contribute approximately six hours per month to Academy activities.
- Collaborate with researchers from around the world on interdisciplinary projects.
- Engage in science policy discussions and evidence-based advocacy.
- Support science communication, education, and public engagement initiatives.
- Work with National Young Academies and international partner organisations.
- Contribute to projects that promote sustainable development and global scientific collaboration.
Members are also expected to attend the 2027 Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled to take place in Indonesia from 21–25 June 2027.

WHO CAN APPLY?

- Hold a PhD or an equivalent research degree.
- Are independent early- or mid-career researchers.

- Show interest or experience in science policy, public engagement, education, science diplomacy, or international collaboration.
Applicants from all research disciplines are encouraged to apply, including:

Researchers working in government, industry, research institutions, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are also eligible.

AGE AND CAREER REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must satisfy one of the following conditions:
- Be born in or after 1986 and hold a PhD (or equivalent qualification); or
- Be born before 1986 but have obtained their PhD in 2019 or later.
Applicants who do not meet these requirements may still be considered if they provide a strong justification explaining career interruptions or other exceptional circumstances.
