Young entrepreneurs looking to expand their businesses beyond their home countries can now apply for the YouthConnekt Africa Export Accelerator 2026, a regional business development programme designed to help African enterprises take advantage of opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Implemented through YouthConnekt Africa in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the African Union (AU), the programme supports businesses that are ready to enter new African markets by strengthening their export capacity, improving investment readiness, and helping them navigate cross-border trade requirements.

Unlike traditional entrepreneurship programmes, the YouthConnekt Africa Export Accelerator is not a grant programme. Instead, it equips participating businesses with the knowledge, tools, mentorship, and regional networks needed to successfully scale across Africa.

The YouthConnekt Africa Export Accelerator is designed to prepare young African entrepreneurs to expand into regional markets by strengthening their export readiness and business competitiveness.

The programme supports businesses that have already established operations and are ready to grow beyond their domestic markets. Through specialized capacity-building activities, participants will gain practical knowledge on exporting within Africa, understanding regulatory requirements, accessing new markets, and positioning their businesses for sustainable regional growth.

The accelerator also supports the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by helping young entrepreneurs identify cross-border business opportunities and overcome common trade barriers.

Participants selected for the programme will receive support in the following areas:

• Export readiness and export capacity development.
• Business expansion into African markets.
• Market entry strategies.
• Customs procedures and regulatory compliance.
• Understanding and overcoming non-tariff trade barriers.
• Access to finance opportunities.
• Investment readiness support.
• Regional networking with entrepreneurs, partners, and industry stakeholders.
• Practical knowledge for leveraging opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Please note: This is not a grant programme. The focus is on strengthening businesses for regional expansion rather than providing direct financial grants.

To apply, applicants must:

• Be under 35 years of age.
• Be from one of the following countries:
• Rwanda
• Uganda
• Senegal
• The Gambia
• Zambia
• Zimbabwe
• Own or operate an established business.
• Have a business that is ready to expand into other African markets.
• Demonstrate interest in export development and regional business growth.

The accelerator is specifically designed to help entrepreneurs prepare for cross-border trade under AfCFTA.

Key focus areas include:
