ABOUT FEMNET

The African Women's Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) is a pan-African feminist membership organization established in 1988 and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.

With over 800 individual and institutional members across more than 50 African countries and the diaspora, FEMNET works to advance gender equality, women's rights, climate justice, economic justice, and feminist leadership throughout Africa.

The organization coordinates advocacy campaigns, policy engagement, research, strategic communications, capacity development, and movement-building initiatives that strengthen feminist organizations and amplify the voices of African women in regional and global decision-making processes.

ABOUT THE CONSULTANCY

FEMNET is seeking a consultant to provide technical and programme support for its Climate Justice portfolio during a specified period.

Rather than functioning as a permanent staff member, the consultant will work on clearly defined assignments with measurable deliverables. The role focuses on strengthening policy advocacy, supporting programme implementation, coordinating activities, producing research and knowledge resources, and ensuring that programme documentation and reporting remain up to date.

Payments will only be made after agreed deliverables have been completed and accepted by FEMNET.

CONSULTANCY OBJECTIVES

The consultant will support FEMNET by:

  • Providing technical expertise on climate policy and advocacy.
  • Strengthening feminist knowledge production.
  • Supporting programme implementation and coordination.
  • Assisting with monitoring, evaluation, and donor reporting.
  • Building the capacity of programme stakeholders and partners.

SCOPE OF WORK

  • Other relevant regional climate platforms

The consultant will produce policy briefs, analytical reports, and advocacy materials that help FEMNET effectively engage in climate negotiations and policy discussions affecting African women and girls.

The role also involves supporting the organization's participation in strategic policy processes by providing timely analysis, background information, and technical advice.

FEMINIST KNOWLEDGE PRODUCTION

The selected consultant will contribute to the production of materials such as:

  • Policy briefs
  • Research papers

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning workshops and webinars.
  • Coordinating meetings and regional convenings.

  • Recording project activities.
  • Supporting monitoring and evaluation (M&E) processes.

  • Ensuring reporting deadlines are met.
  • Producing a comprehensive final consultancy report summarizing achievements, lessons learned, and recommendations.
